G.E.N

„G.E.N” is a story about an alternative community whose members contest reality and use provocations to change the system based on fear, manipulation and enslavement of individuals. While attempting to destabilise the system, they destroy their own community. Is it possible to log out from a reality that does not work?

„G.E.N” is a story about an alternative community whose members contest reality and use provocations to change the system based on fear, manipulation and enslavement of individuals. While attempting to destabilise the system, they destroy their own community. Is it possible to log out from a reality that does not work?

The performance is a response to Lars von Trier’s “The Idiots” (1998) about a group of young people who, by pretending to be mentally disabled, ridicule western social standards. „G.E.N” is not an attempt to criticise the socio-political system, but rather to reflect on the human nature because, despite civilizational and evolutionary progress, humans have not developed morally. It is a journey across the several circles of global systems, social and partner relations, through individual psyche, in search for the elementary particle in charge of violence and hatred.

The performance is dedicated to the memory of Danuta Szaflarska (1915-2017), a TR Warszawa actress.

The performance is recommended for adults (18+ yo). Younger audience’s participation is subject to parent’s and/or legal guardian’s consent (please contact the education department: edukacja@trwarszawa.pl).

For organized post-gymnasium school groups we offer introductory workshops to the performance (please contact the education department: edukacja@trwarszawa.pl for more details).

Reviews

  • „G.E.N an exceptional piece. Absolutely!”
Jacek Wakar, Polskie Radio – Program 2
  • „Grzegorz Jarzyna returns in style (…) Something that you watch in silence, speaks louder to you. Especially if it speaks of true and important matters. Jarzyna leaves us with a glimmer of hope: the community is falling apart, but unlike von Trier’s visio, the prosecco is not complete yet.”
    Tomasz Domagała, domagalasiekultury.blog.pl
  • „This performance is a group experience.”
